Clay Classes       

 

R&R Beginning Wheel – Refine and Refresh your skills  (Age 14+)    

For ages 14+.  This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  Students will refresh and refine their basic wheel throwing skills.  This class is intended for beginners to expand on their basic knowledge and continue to develop their throwing skills. 

Date: Monday, October 30th -December 18th    

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Beginning Wheel (7 week Class)

For ages 14+.  This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  You will learn the basic techniques of wheel-work and explore the cup and cylinder.   This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

Date: Thursday, November 2nd – December 21st  (no class Nov 23rd)       

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Intermediate Wheel: The Wide (and narrow) World of Jars

For ages 14+.  This intermediate wheel class will focus on expanding your basic wheel techniques.   Jar forms and lids of all kinds will be explored and the knobs and handles, too! This class is intended for students with a strong basic knowledge of throwing.

Date: Tuesday, October 31st – December 19th

Special Topics: Thinking Thick in Earthenware

For ages 14+. This special class will be conducted using earthenware.  The class will focus on making and altering thicker forms and reductive carving. This class is intended for students of all skill levels.

Portrait Class

For ages 14+.  This class will create a ceramic portrait from conception to completion. This class will explore a variety of sculpting and hand building techniques to complete a portrait..  This class is intended for students of all skill levels.

Conversations in Clay        

For ages 14+.  This is an advanced class for students who are confident working independently.  We will work with a variety of artists to survey advanced ceramic techniques through lectures and demonstrations.

For all Clay Classes:

  • Bring a small bucket, towel, and pottery tool kit* to class.

  • Tuition includes one 12 pound bag of clay, open studio time, 36" shelf space and some firing costs.

NOTES:

  • *Pottery tool kits as well as additional clay and glass supplies may be purchased at the Ceramics Center.

  • Unless otherwise noted, class participants may be charged firing fees for extra work made during the session.

Intro to Glass Fusing (Age 14+) – 7 Weeks

This is an introductory class in glass fusing.  You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects.  No glass experience is required.

Date: Thursday, Nov 2nd – Dec  21th (no class on Nov 23rd)

Advanced Glass (Age 14+)

This class is ideal for students with strong basic fusing skills who are self-motivated and have several projects in mind. New techniques will be introduced such as frit, and more complex slumping methods. Fusing and slumping experience is required.

Glass for Everyone (Age 14+)

This is a class for any level. During the first six weeks, we will concentrate on the basics of glass fusing (cutting and firing temperatures) and different techniques of decorating glass while creating small projects. The last two weeks will be for larger projects of your choosing. No glass experience is required.
