Clay Classes       


 

1.0 Beginning Wheel

For ages 14+.  This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  You will learn the basic techniques of wheel-work and explore the cup and cylinder.   This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

 

Date: Monday, May 7th through June 25th  

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

2.0 Beginning Wheel

For ages 14+.  This class is an introduction to working with clay on the potter’s wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  Students will refresh and refine their basic wheel throwing skills.  This class is intended for beginners to expand on their basic knowledge and continue to develop their throwing skills. 

 

Date: Thursday, May 10th through June 28th          

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Cost: $145

Intermediate Wheel

For ages 14+.   Take your pots to the next level! Make your pots lighter, bigger and more refined. Each class will focus on reviewing a wheel technique! Skill level: intermediate to advanced.  This class is intended for students with a strong basic knowledge of throwing.

Date: Tuesday, May 8th through June 26th      

Time: 6:00-8:00pm

Special Topics— An Introduction to Clay

This is a class designed to introduce students to the basics of clay.  Students will learn the following techniques: pinch, slab and coil.  This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

Date: Wednesdays, May 9th through May 30th

Time: 12:00-2:00 pm

Cost: $95 or ( $155.50 with 4 week open studio)

Conversations in Clay – 4 week class

This is an advanced class for students who are confident working independently.  We will work with a variety of artists to survey advanced ceramic techniques through lectures and demonstrations.

Date: Wednesdays, May 9th through May 30th

Time: 12:00-2:00 pm

Cost: $95 or ( $155.50 with 4 week open studio)

Maximum participants: 12

For all Clay Classes:

  • Bring a small bucket, towel, and pottery tool kit* to class.

  • Tuition includes one 12 pound bag of clay, open studio time, 36" shelf space and some firing costs.

NOTES:

  • *Pottery tool kits as well as additional clay and glass supplies may be purchased at the Ceramics Center.

  • Unless otherwise noted, class participants may be charged firing fees for extra work made during the session.

Intro to Glass Fusing (Age 14+) 

This is an introductory class in glass fusing.  You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects.  No glass experience is required.

Advanced Glass (Age 14+)

This class is ideal for students with strong basic fusing skills who are self-motivated and have several projects in mind. New techniques will be introduced such as frit, and more complex slumping methods. Fusing and slumping experience is required.

Glass for Everyone (Age 14+)

This is a class for any level. During the first six weeks, we will concentrate on the basics of glass fusing (cutting and firing temperatures) and different techniques of decorating glass while creating small projects. The last two weeks will be for larger projects of your choosing. No glass experience is required.
