2018.6 Classes

October 29th- December 22nd

 

 1.0 Beginning Wheel

Introduction to working with clay on the pottery wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  You will learn basic throwing techniques and explore the cup and cylinder. This class is for individuals with little to no experience. 

Date: Monday Evenings, October 29th- December 17th

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Part 2: Altered and Assembling Forms— 4 week class

Intermediate to Advanced class.  In this class, students will incorporate wheel and hand building skills.  Participants will work with guest artist Andy Gemmell, to create dynamic forms on and off the wheel.  Students do not need to take Part 1 to enroll in the Part 2 class.

Date: Tuesday Evenings, October 30th – November 20th

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Hand building with Character

Students will use the basic hand building skills of pinch, slab, and coil to create original works of art!  Students will work with Low- fire clay.  This class is for individuals with some experience. Ages 14+.

Date: Wednesday Evenings, October 31st- December 19th

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

2.0 Beginning Wheel —7 Week Class

This class is an introduction to working with clay on the pottery wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  Students will refresh and refine their basic wheel throwing skills, while developing their individual style. This class is intended for beginners to expand on their basic knowledge and continue to develop their throwing skills. Ages 14+

Date: Thursday Evenings, November 1st – December 20th (no class Nov. 22)

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Cost: $135

For all Clay Classes:

  • Bring a small bucket, towel, and pottery tool kit* to class.

  • Tuition includes one 12 pound bag of clay, open studio time, 36" shelf space and some firing costs.

NOTES:

  • *Pottery tool kits as well as additional clay and glass supplies may be purchased at the Ceramics Center.

  • Unless otherwise noted, class participants may be charged firing fees for extra work made during the session.

Intro to Glass Fusing (Age 14+) 4 week

This is an introductory class in glass fusing.  You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects.  No glass experience is required.

Thursday, November 1st – November 29th  (no class Nov. 22)

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm    

Cost: $95  

Maximum participants: 10

Advanced Glass (Age 14+)

This class is ideal for students with strong basic fusing skills who are self-motivated and have several projects in mind. New techniques will be introduced such as frit, and more complex slumping methods. Fusing and slumping experience is required.

Glass for Everyone (Age 14+)

This is a class for any level. During the first six weeks, we will concentrate on the basics of glass fusing (cutting and firing temperatures) and different techniques of decorating glass while creating small projects. The last two weeks will be for larger projects of your choosing. No glass experience is required.

  • Bring a 12x12 storage case for your glass and one roll of paper towels or kleenex
