Clay Classes       


Session 1 Classes

January 2nd – February 23rd

 

 1.0 Beginning Wheel — 7 weeks

Introduction to working with clay on the pottery wheel. Each student will have their own wheel to work with.  You will learn basic throwing techniques and explore the cup and cylinder. This class is for individuals with little to no experience.

Intermediate Wheel—7 week class

Take your pots to the next level! Get your pots lighter, bigger and more refined. Each class will focus on reviewing a wheel technique! Skill level: intermediate to advanced.  This class is intended for students with a strong basic knowledge of throwing.

Date: Tuesday, January 8th – February 19th – 7 weeks

Time: 6:00-8:00 pm

Creating in Clay—4 week class

This is a class designed to introduce students to the basics of Hand Building techniques: pinch, slab and coil.  This class is for individuals with little to no experience. 14+.

Date: Wednesdays, January 2nd – January 23rd – 4 weeks

Special Topics—Large Jars—8 week class

Students will learn techniques of hand building large vessel with emphasize will be placed on coil building.  Students will be encouraged to personalize their large jar.  Students of all skill levels welcome, lowfire clay will be used.

  • Bring a small bucket, towel, and pottery tool kit* to class.

  • Tuition includes one 12 pound bag of clay, open studio time, 36" shelf space and some firing costs.

NOTES:

  • *Pottery tool kits as well as additional clay and glass supplies may be purchased at the Ceramics Center.

  • Unless otherwise noted, class participants may be charged firing fees for extra work made during the session.

This is an introductory class in glass fusing.  You will learn the fundamentals of glass fusing: cutting glass, laying it out in creative ways, and fusing it together to create unique designs and projects.  No glass experience is required.

Advanced Glass—7 weeks

This class is ideal for students with strong basic fusing skills who are self-motivated and have several projects in mind. New techniques will be introduced such as frit, and more complex slumping methods. Fusing and slumping experience is required.

Glass for Everyone

This is a class for any level. During the first six weeks, we will concentrate on the basics of glass fusing (cutting and firing temperatures) and different techniques of decorating glass while creating small projects. The last two weeks will be for larger projects of your choosing. No glass experience is required.

Time: 10:00 am-12:00 pm

Special Topics - High Fire Glazing —8 weeks

This class is focused on high fire reduction glazing techniques.  Students will develop and refine techniques for glazing utilizing the ICCGS’s glaze pallet.  Students are encouraged to have bisque ware ready to glaze.  Wheel throwers and hand builders welcome! Ages 14+
